We’re going to ROCK the MCA’s this year!
Montevideo Schools are preparing for Spring Testing!
Our 3rd-11th grade students have been working hard all year to show growth on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments in Reading, Math, and Science.
What can parents do to support your child for success on these assessments?
- Make sure your child gets a good night of sleep before the assessments.
- Ensuring that your child eats a nutritious breakfast the morning of the assessment is also important.
- If your child is struggling with any areas in reading or math; here are a couple of resources to try at home to support your child’s learning:
1) Almost all of the teachers in Grades K-8 offer online resources for supporting your child’s learning in Reading and Math. To find a teacher’s webpage, click on the Staff button on the montevideoschools.org website. Use the search area to type in the name of your child’s teacher. Click on the website link that appears with the teacher’s name and information. One of their website pages will include links to all the online learning resources available to your child.
2) Another resource that helps with Math is Math@Home. Math@Home is a free website (https://hub.lexile.com/math-at-home) that provides parents with activities to help their child at home. Activities can be found by typing in the child's State, Grade, and Keyword. Some activities are worksheets, but several other activities include videos and online games that support math growth.
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are state-mandated tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Science that meet the requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These assessments are aligned with all the grade level standards required by law to be taught in Reading, Mathematics, and Science. The MCAs are given every year to measure student achievement on the Minnesota Academic Standards.
The MCAs are also used to determine whether Montevideo Public School is making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) towards all students being proficient, including high attendance on test dates. Therefore, we ask that parents avoid making appointments on testing dates as posted below:
