
🌟Staff Spotlight!🌟 Meet Kailee Carlson, Speech-Language Pathologist at Montevideo Elementary Schools. Hello! My name is Kailee Carlson. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist at Ramsey and Sanford Elementary Schools, and this is my 7th year in the Montevideo School District. I additionally work PRN as a Speech-Language Pathologist at the CCM clinic in Montevideo. I obtained my bachelor's degree at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2015 and my master's degree at the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2017. I have loved working in the Montevideo School District and getting to be a part of another community! I am very passionate about what I do and love to see the growth in my students' communication and watching them become more confident with themselves and in the classroom. Having great co-workers to collaborate with is an added bonus! I grew up and currently live in Clara City with my husband, Trent, our 2.5 year old son, Maddox, and our golden doodle, Ollie. We are expecting another son in July! Outside of school, I enjoy thrifting, traveling, camping, and photography. Meet another one of our awesome paraprofessionals, Tammy Baker!
Hello! My name is Tammy Baker. I am originally from Crookston, Minnesota. I graduated high school from Crookston and received my Bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. I worked at UND as a Records Manager for the Energy & Environmental Research Center for 18 years. I married my husband Jim and moved down to a country home near Sacred Heart, MN. We have one son Ben who attends Montevideo High School. I have been working as a paraprofessional for 19 years, and I'm currently in my 10th year with Montevideo Public Schools. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, canning and freezing my garden produce.

Meet Pam Voorhees, Special Education Paraprofessional at Sanford Elementary School.
Hi! My name is Pam, and I work as a Special Education Para at Sanford Elementary. In my previous career, I was a nurse for 25 years. I worked the overnight shift in the nursing home for 24 years. Four years ago, I decided it was time for me to make a career change, and I began working as a paraprofessional for Montevideo Public Schools. I'm so glad I did, and my husband Rod and family were glad too. I love my job and working with the kids! I learn something new everyday from these amazing kids!
I have two sons, Jordan (Anne Jo), and Tristan (Allison), and four amazing grandsons and one brand new beautiful granddaughter. In my spare time, I love spending time with my grandkids, being outdoors, camping, gardening and crocheting. I also love fishing, both ice and open water.
We are so proud to have Pam on our team!

Hello! My name is Frances, and I am a mother of three, two girls and a little boy. I grew up in Spicer, Minnesota, and I am married to Robert Leal. I am an active member of the Montevideo Fiesta Board. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, and meeting new people. This is my first year working as a Title I teacher. My strengths are I’m a fast learner, I pay attention to detail, and I am a team player.

Montevideo School Board Selects Superintendent
Montevideo, MN— At a special board meeting on January 23, 2025, the Montevideo School Board unanimously voted to select Dr. Jamie Skjeveland as the district’s next superintendent.
“We believe Mr. Skjeveland has the qualifications and skills to move the school district forward, and we are excited about him joining our school district,” said Andrew Stenson, Montevideo Public School’s Board Chair.
The school board will be conducting negotiations with Dr. Skjeveland, and a contract is expected to be approved by the school board at a February 10 board meeting.
The pending start date for Skjeveland will be July 1, 2025.

Meet Nicole, Family & Community Liaison at the Montevideo High School!
Hello! My name is Nicole Valenzuela. I was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I moved to Montevideo in 2019. I started working as an EL paraprofessional at the high school in 2020. Now I'm working as a liaison, and I help hispanic families in the school, ensuring that they understand school policies and programs, translation, and know their child's progress. In my free time, I enjoy playing UNO with my siblings and cousins, going to the movie theater, go-karts, traveling, attending live concerts and hanging out with my family.

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH UPDATE
The Superintendent Search is underway, and the application deadline was the end of the day on January 7th. The school board is grateful to everyone who took the time to complete the Superintendent Search Survey, for their input, and for their interest in the superintendent search. The school board is reviewing applications and will meet to determine finalists and prepare for the first round of interviews scheduled for January 23, 2025.
