Montevideo High School students are building a strong foundation with which to build their future in health care careers.
In the Foundations of Health Care Careers 1, the students have already completed college coursework in the nursing assistant program and first aid/CPR. The last half of the school year, they will complete trained medication aide and medical terminology courses. Students have the potential to earn three industry certifications that are directly transferable to the workplace; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Trained Medication Aide (TMA) and First Aid/CPR certification. In addition, they will earn 9 college credits in this first year of the program. Students are connecting with local employers in health care who come into the classroom or offer site tours and job shadows.
This program has been made possible through a Health Care Collaborative that includes CCM Health, the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, MN West Community and Technical College, and the School District and with grant funding from the LYFT Career Pathways and the Southwest Initiative Foundation.
