How to Become a Substitute Teacher

When:  November 1, 2018 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Where: Minneota Schools, Minneota, MN
This is a free class limited to 30 people. Register by calling 320-269-9297

 - Do you enjoy working with young people?
 - Do you have a four year degree?
 - Can you pass a background check?

If you can answer yes to these three questions, you are eligible to apply for a Short Call Substitute License. This license will allow you to serve as a substitute teacher for grades K-12 in the state of Minnesota.

This course will provide information on the process for applying for a short call license, along with the things you need to know in order to have a successful experience as a substitute teacher. We will address topics like classroom management, reading and implementing substitute teaching plans, building rapport with students, and how to handle various classroom situations.

Substitute teaching is a great way to supplement your income, while maintaining flexibility in your schedule. It is also an opportunity to contribute to the education of students in our community.

The flu season has begun and illness is starting in our community.   Influenza is an upper respiratory disease that usually lasts for 5-7 days causing fever, body aches, cough, sore throat and fatigue. The flu virus can spread easily in schools, sports teams and at work.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older.  Instead of missing several days of school or work, there is still time to call Countryside Public Health at 320-269-2174 or your medical clinic for an appointment to be vaccinated.

Please refer to the attached “Influenza Symptom Screening Tool for Parents and Caregivers” for information about when you should keep your child home.  

Contact your school nurse or family physician if you have further questions about influenza.
