2016-2017 Summary

All Students Ready for Kindergarten

  • Goal:

    • The percentage of pre-kindergarten four-year-olds living in the Montevideo school district during the year prior to enrollment in Kindergarten who have an opportunity to attend a preschool in 2016-17 will continue to be above to 90% in the fall of 2017.

  • Result:

    • 93% of students in Kindergarten in the fall of 2017 (that have lived in Montevideo during the previous year) have attended preschool.

All Students in Third Grade Achieving Grade-Level Literacy

  • Goal:

    • The percentage of third grade students that meet or exceed reading standards on the MCA tests will increase from 57.9% to 61% or higher in the 2016-2017 school year. Also the percentage of students in grades 1-3 that meet or exceed NWEA spring to spring reading growth goals will continue to increase for our 5 year goal (improving from 45% in year one and growing to 59% in year 5) and meet or exceed 51% in 2017.

  • Result:

    • The percent of third grade students who met or exceeded reading standards on the MCA tests in 2017 was 62.5%

    • The growth for students in grades 1-3 that met or exceeded NWEA Spring to Spring reading growth was 60.2% in 2016 - 17.

Close the Achievement Gap(s) Among All Groups

  • Goal:

    • The gap between the FRP students and the Non-FRP students in math will decrease so that at the end of the 2016-2017 school year, there will only be a gap of 18.0% as compared to 20.8% in 2016 as demonstrated on the MCA III by the following proficiency rate increases.

      • Non-FRP proficiency rates will increase from 65.7% in 2016 to 68.0% in 2017

      • FRP proficiency rates will increase from 44.9% in 2016 to 50% in 2017

  • Result:

    • Although both Non-FRP and FRP student proficiency rates rose, the gap between the FRP students and the Non-FRP students in math in 2017 actually grew to 24.5%.

      • Non-FRP proficiency rates rose to 69.7% in 2017

      • FRP proficiency rates rose to 45.2%

All Students Career- and College-Ready by Graduation

  • Goal:

    • The percentage of all students enrolled October 1 in grade 8 at Montevideo Public Schools who earn an achievement level of Meets the Standards or Exceeds the Standards in mathematics on all state accountability tests (MCA, MTAS) will increase from 42.1% in 2016 to 47.1% in the Spring of 2017.

  • Result:

    • In 2017, Montevideo 8th graders were 51% proficient on all statewide mathematics accountability tests.

All Students Graduate

  • Goal:

    • By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, Montevideo Senior High School will maintain the overall graduation rate of all students to above 95%, and the graduation rate of FRP students will continue to be above 90%.
